A few months ago I bought this pet gate to keep my cats out of one of the rooms in my house because one of the cats peed in that room. In the past my husband and I have tried to keep him out of this room but nothing worked so we gave this gate a try. We have 3 cats of varying sizes (a healthy 10lbs to a plump 14lbs) and jumping abilities and none of them can squeeze through the bars and none of them have attempted to jump over the gate. I don't know if it's because the gate is at the top of the stairs, but the important thing is that it doesn't try to jump. I don't know how well it will hold kittens or really good jumpers, but it will keep the average mischievous cat out of the room. I don't know how well this works on dogs, but it will work fine on cats. It can handle a significant amount of weight leaning against it (when testing to make sure it's safe) and I weigh over 100 pounds.
