I live in an old building. Every day when I come home from work, the neighbors smell like cigarettes or marijuana. Add to that the usual moldy, musty smell of old buildings and there's plenty of it, even if you're not allergic. My apartment is beautiful inside and I'm in the process of renting out so I really don't want to move so I decided to look for a HEPA filter to try and fix some issues. After doing some research, I finally settled on Green Air™ Encore. I was a little price wary as I'm totally new to the HEPA filter market. However; I wanted to buy something that turned out to be a quality product. I wanted something that could work individually for my entire 630 square foot apartment, and the 1,000 square feet this model can handle fits the bill perfectly. I've had it for a little over 24 hours so I'll give you my very first impression. Green Air Encore™ was packaged very well. Its factory packaging was sealed in a separate box with no further identification so no one would want to take it off my porch. Inside it had the usual hard, rigid styrofoam top and bottom, which was a bit disappointing for something in this price range. However, he wasn't hurt, so that's good. The initial setup was very easy. The outer door is magnetic and comes off with enough force that I'm sure it won't fall off on its own. However; I don't feel like I break it every time I shoot. Under the cover you will find 3 filters. The first is removable, it can be washed and does not need to be replaced. The intermediate filter is made of activated carbon and is packed in a plastic bag that must be removed before starting the unit. Inside the HEPA filter. The HEPA filter seems adequate enough to deal with its rating, but I couldn't find a MERV rating anywhere on the unit's box or in the owner's manual. First I used the device in automatic mode and it worked for about 20 minutes before it dropped to minimum and the air purity indicator turned blue indicating I had very clean air. The instruction manual shows how easy it is to change the air sensitivity. So I decided to do it. After the device was set to maximum sensitivity, it continued to work for half an hour before falling back to the minimum setting. The air in my house could have been cleaner given that the device is 1,000 square feet and my apartment is only 630, but there was no olfactory difference. I decided to put the device in manual mode, set the second of the four settings and let it run overnight. The morning before I went to work, I turned it on to the third setting out of four, placed it in the middle of my largest room, and let it run for twelve hours while I was at work. That's when I finally realized how important Green Air™ Encore is. For the first time since I've moved into my current apartment, my house smells of cleanliness when I open the door. There's no cigarette smoke, no hint of marijuana, or mold and mildew. In just 24 hours, I feel like the device has already proven how great it is. If the system can actively help me enjoy my home, I can only imagine how good it is for my health. So far I'm very happy with this product and would recommend anyone looking for a quality HEPA filter to seriously consider the Green Air™ Encore.***Update***Two and a half months later I can't picture my home without this item. Indoors for most of the winter and I've had no allergy issues at all. The first filter cleaning was an easy task as I pressed the hidden button on the left. In general, I stand by my first rating.
