I bought a 200 watt heater for a 40 gallon tank with about 35 gallons in it and haven't had any major problems so far. We have turtles and I put this heater in the unplugged tank for a whole day to check for leaks and see if they leaked in. They were very curious and tried to bite and ram him. I was very happy that they didn't even leave a scratch. The plastic protection holds up great and also prevents them from touching the heater. It has been in the tank for a few days now and helps maintain a more even temperature. My only complaint. The documents that come with it are horribly translated and it also says there is an installation diagram on the box. If the installation diagram wasn't filmed in a snowstorm, then it doesn't exist. Luckily they have provided all the information on the Amazon sales page.
