where to start?! First, our dwarf hamster had to spend 10 days at the vet's after his paw got stuck between the bars and clear plastic walls at night while we slept and had to hang there until we woke up - who knows what for. How many?! We didn't even know if she would survive or if her leg would have to be amputated. It was fin-like and about five times the normal size, and she couldn't use it. Even now that she's recovered, she still holds it a little awkwardly. It's heartbreaking. We've previously had to swap water bottles on both (we bought two of them) because both were leaking non-stop. No matter how tightly and carefully we sealed it, we filled it with water and it was empty and all the bedding and food was soaked. We were on a trip and looked for suitable water bottles in various pet stores, and in one store (the first) in the store, the bottom of one of the cages just fell out. So the hamster fell four feet, I had to dive on her to make sure she didn't run away at the pet shop. And it was a huge mess that we helped the staff clean up. I assumed she assembled it incorrectly, but no, this cage cannot be locked securely. There are small protrusions that are meant to interlock, but they don't interlock and don't fall apart simply by breathing on them. No other locking or closing system of any kind. I had to borrow packing tape from one of the pet stores and tape the top and bottom of both cages together. she seemed to be running. So DO NOT buy this cage! Domestic hamsters should definitely be kept in large glass aquariums for their safety and well-being. Wire cages are not safe for them. From now on if we have to travel with them we will use deep clear plastic containers like the ones they kept at the vet. I'd really like to return them, but apparently I just flew out of the return window. I don't even want to give them away.
