Let me start by saying that I had fun making this watch and I like how it turned out. This is a great wooden puzzle and the instructions are easy to follow. Upon completion, he gets tons of "oos, aas, and wow." The instructions must be followed to the letter. Any deviation causes problems. In addition, there are several points that need to be emphasized. I'll talk about those below. The film faced plywood panels are bare wood so the first thing I did was paint them with a clear polyurethane satin to keep the oil from my hands from staining the wood. I've never worked well with rubber gloves, as shown in some YouTube videos. I let everything dry well overnight. The first issue I had was that the 2 sheets had minor warping that didn't turn out to be a big problem. Be very careful when removing parts from sheet metal as the wood is thin and can break. Once removed, sand and wax the parts as directed. This becomes very important when the parts are assembled and expected to work together. There are many parts that need to be inserted into the holes and slots. Some of them are very solid and excessive force can break them (I broke 2 and had to fix with super glue). After this experience, I started smoothing out the cracks with a small file and sandpaper. After that everything seemed to work. See Figure D1. It is very important for the timer to work that the D1 parts are fully sanded and thoroughly waxed. Any bump on their surface will cause the timer to stop. I learned this the hard way and had to fix it. I think the instructions should emphasize this a bit more. The B2 tip also needs to be sanded very smooth and well waxed as it works on D2 with just enough pressure to prevent the alarm from sounding until the pointer reaches 0. See Figure B2. I had 2 problems with warped sheets. One attaches the dial to the structure. Since the B10 was warped it didn't slide up until you pulled out the A17 mount so I filed the slot a bit and glued the A17 to the front. It arrives tight but stays together. There probably won't be a problem unless the B10 is deformed. Second, the pendulum shaft is bent and not hanging straight. I still haven't figured out how to remove the warp. I'm not inclined to take risks to break it. I hope this little discussion is helpful. This is a beautiful watch and a lot of fun. Remember that the final product will only be as good as the puzzle creator, so take your time and be meticulous. Enjoy!
