I had it in my 6 year old's ear for one night. She asked to change them the next day. I go to remove one of the earrings and the back end poke a hole in her ear and I didn't tighten them when I put them in. I don't know how it happened but I almost couldn't get the earring back. out of her ear and now she has a red/swollen ear. Could be worse. I wear them because I'm also allergic to metal and haven't had any problems so far. They may not be suitable for young children.
