Small neck hole, makes annoying noises when switching on and off

I got this while trying to turn down the volume in an office in a flat share. While it seems to perform acceptably for the most part with its main function, it's a little awkward to put on as it's a little tight, but it's doable. My biggest complaint is how much noise it makes when turning on and off and how it handles the volume. I wanted something to listen to soft music or podcasts but still have the hearing to receive phone calls, but turning this thing on makes a super futuristic sound like a spaceship taking off, accompanied by various beeps when it finds your device and establishes a connection. , as well as annoying continuous beeps when the battery is low and another spaceship sound when the battery is off. As far as I can tell, there doesn't seem to be any way to turn them off or down, and they're very loud and, frankly, a little awkward in the office. I have to warn my cubic neighbors when I turn them on and off, which defeats the purpose of an office speaker for me. I could perhaps ignore all of these issues if it were cheaper, but I'm afraid at this price point I would expect at least *some* of those issues to be gone.
