This is an excellent fax machine. In my home office, it replaces an HP FAX-900 that served as a bon vivant for many years but finally met its end. Before that I had a Canon thermal printer which I paid around 10 times more for at the time than this Brother machine. It's really adorable. You have read all the reviews. This machine offers very high quality input and output. It's fast; it works; and consumables available. I wouldn't bother you with another review if I didn't report that the "deep sleep" problem appears to have been resolved. At least on my machine this is not a problem at all. All tests confirm that the device wakes up immediately from deep sleep mode and receives incoming faxes without delay. Of course, I cannot guarantee that you will not encounter any problems with your particular sample. I would also recommend buyers to use RTFM (including the Advanced Features Guide on the hard drive). One of the most important I think is the phone line compatibility setting (menu, 2, 0, 1), which is actually a point in the quick start guide. Many of you have VoIP service and don't even know about it. Even if you have a traditional POTS copper pair, any connection can use VoIP. So if you are having trouble, check this setting. There aren't many options for dedicated fax machines these days. I'm very glad Brother gave me this choice.
