A Store for Snobs with Deep Pockets: Connétable

I was eager to check out the Connétable online shop as a self-described foodie, but boy was I let down. They have a great variety of gourmet foods and pantry essentials, but the prices are outrageous. Who in their right mind would spend $50 for a bottle of olive oil or $100 for a jar of truffles? Come on, really. It's not a designer handbag; it's sustenance. Not to mention, I've seen better deals at Michelin-starred restaurants for their charcuterie collection. But it wasn't just the costs that made me feel uneasy. The ordering procedure is annoying and the website is difficult to use. Just to get my purchase, I had to go through a lot of hoops, and it took forever to get here. And when it did, the wrapping was unremarkable. Although the goods were presented in attractive packaging, I could have achieved the same result by using some tissue paper and string. Overall, unless you're a snob with significant pockets, I wouldn't suggest Connétable to anyone. There are numerous other online retailers that sell premium gourmet foods at more affordable costs. Save your cash and avoid this expensive shop.

Pros
  • Pricing for expensive goods is reasonable.
Cons
  • Website browsing is a nightmare.
