Review on Nokian Tires Nordman RS2 185/65 R15 92R winter by Micha Sarnowski ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I was surprised by the quality for this price.

Velcro purchase history is quite interesting. When it came time to buy a new winter resume, I chose and ordered a studded Nokian in one popular store, took the money and went to buy it. On the way to the store, I began to think: "well, maybe these spikes are nafig and take Velcro." What are the arguments "for" Velcro: 1. You no longer have to count "how many spikes did I lose" at the beginning / end of the season; 2. because no constantly flying spikes, no need to rebalance every 1-2 seasons; 3. no noise (obviously); 4. no need to adjust to the weather forecast. Calm down, we'll change our shoes in advance. This comes from the fact that Velcro rolls on asphalt without problems at positive temperatures. On spikes you will be like a cat on the floor. 5. On clear ice worse than spikes (obviously). But. Where did you see "clean ice" on your route in your city? PGS is sprinkled on the roads, in the yards there are either snow marks or compacted snow. On snow and compacted snow, the spikes/velcro are the same; 6. Braking/acceleration on pavement is better. 7. After 2 seasons, any studded tire starts to lose studs. When 30% of the spikes are lost, such a spike becomes much worse than Velcro. This comes from the fact that "Velcro" ≠ "thorns without thorns", because the rubber composition, tread pattern and sipe characteristics of the studs are worse. Arguments for this Nokian: 1. Quieter than other Velcro (judging by the reviews); 2. Good self-cleaning herringbone tread pattern; 3. Many deep strong lamellas; - And one more thing: do not forget in which areas 95% of jams occur. It is ice covered with a layer of snow. In such scenarios, any monodrive will have problems, regardless of the presence of spikes. For the snow on the ice is too tough for the spikes: the spikes simply do not reach the ice and cannot cling to it. In the photo: I drove through sticky snow in a parking lot, you can see how the rubber "sticks" to the snow. When driving on asphalt or slipping, such snow will immediately fly off, don’t worry here

Pros
  • Not noisier than the summer hakka green 2, they make noise only when accelerating (the work of the lamellas is expressed, a slight heavenly rustling). Strong. I got into pits / crooked manhole covers, everything is ok. In the snow they row with dignity, on clear ice they are a little worse than spikes. More details in the comments.
Cons
  • I don’t know about other Velcro, but these ones lost 1.5-2 mm on the drive axle in one winter season (about 10 thousand km, highway / city). I will write down the shortcomings, but I think this is the norm for soft rubber.

The only thing I thought after I switched from spikes to clutches was "why didn't I do this sooner"

Pros: Quality, price, good reviews Some cons: I don't know yet. Like all winter tires, it's noisy.
