Review on DJI Phone Camera Gimbal MOBILE by Melota Phillips

Revainrating 4 out of 5

The device arrived as described and works great. At the same price as usual at OSMO.

The device corresponds to the description and works perfectly. At the same price as OSMO, the accessories that come with this kit are a huge win. The missing star has more to do with the product itself than the product as it comes from the seller, which I'll get to in a moment: I find OSMO Mobile to be a really great tool for documenting events and shooting b-roll . It is small, portable, relatively light and handy. This gives me a relatively subtle way of getting very stable looking footage without the bulk and focus that a DSLR's stabilization system has. And for the money, when you compare OSMO Mobile to competing solutions like IKAN Fly X3 Plus, there really is no denying that OSMO is more functional. The thumb controls and features of the DJI go app are big pluses. but they all have some obvious disadvantages. The first big downer: If you use Android, you can currently not use most of the professional features of the DJI Go app for OSMO. You have no control over ISO, white balance, exposure, etc. I would recommend either using the Filmic Pro app, which costs $10 and has been used in many major professional films shot on mobile devices, or something similar , but more moderate app price of the cinema app. FV-5, which you can usually find for around $5. The second major drawback - worried about the sound quality straight from your phone? Personally, I use this as a handy and backup system for pre-visual shoots, event coverage, and b-rolls, all of which don't require great audio. However, if you're using this as an all-in-one system for big shoots where you expect to use audio straight from your mobile device in your final edit (no secondary audio sync), check where your phone has your headphones. socket is located. Is the headphone jack at the top or bottom next to the charging port? I have an S7 Edge and the headphone jack is on the bottom. This makes it usable and inaccessible as the phone is first inserted into the clip on the OSMO from below. If I tried to place my phone upside down, the phone's camera would point directly at the OSMO's balance arm. So keep in mind which mobile device you are using. If you're using a device with a headphone jack on top, you'll have direct access to external audio gear, if not, you're stuck. Find a good case for OSMO Mobile. The zippered pouch that DJI includes with the kit is a joke. The device hardly presses in and the soft fabric side walls offer neither support nor protection for the device. The box the device comes in protects the OSMO well as it has a hard foam interior custom cut for your OSMO, but to balance the device for your phone you will need to lengthen and tighten one of the support arms. which means that OSMO no longer fits in the original packaging. You can loosen a bolt, put an unbalanced OSMO in a box, and balance it every day, but a box with no straps is still not the ideal solution. I ended up buying a hardened foam case for about $35 that said it was designed for OSMO and reviewers said it's also made for OSMO Mobile. it's not like this. The OSMO phone's arms fold outwards, making it significantly larger and longer than the original OSMO. The pre-cut foam trays that came with the kit did not fit. I ended up taking some soft foam from my local craft store, cut it out and lined the case with it. When the zipper closes, the foam conforms to the OSMO, holding it in place and protecting it from minor impacts. It's not the best solution, but for the price, it was a good solution for me. Typically priced over $100, most cases designed for DJI products are bulky, metal, reinforced pieces redesigned for a device designed for portability and comfort. And the fourth disadvantage, which will only occur in extreme cases - OSMO Mobile tends to "wobble" if you turn it too far to the right. Because OSMO Mobile has a built-in "portrait mode" as one of the ways you can hold the device, OSMO tends to try to switch to portrait mode when you rotate when testing how hard it's rotating with A normal grip can stabilize too close to the ends of its reach. In most cases you won't need your OSMO to compensate for such a sharp almost 25-35 degree off-axis rotation, but this should be taken into account if you intend to use the device at high intensity. Situations, perhaps for sports lighting, where you expect OSMO to move quickly and at odd angles. All in all a great product and fantastic price for this particular kit. My OSMO Mobile arrived with no issues, the only issues I have are with the product itself. If none of the issues I have listed bother you then this is definitely the package I would recommend.
