I have built in canisters in my ceiling and these lights are great for replacing the halogen lights I had previously. They are slightly brighter and the light is less direct. I'm happy with that as it makes the whole room a little brighter. The dome-shaped lens on them diffuses the light well. If you want a focused halogen look look for PAR20. These lamps with rounded lenses throw light to the sides, making the room brighter with less direction towards the ground. I put them on a Martin Jerry trailing edge dimmer and they flicker when set to their lowest dimming level of 5%. I don't know if it's the switch or the lightbulb.
