Based on information from EWG I've been thinking about the best option. This toner and the Thaers toner have the same grade (3) so I bought them both. It contains phenoxyethanol known as glycol ether or in other words a solvent. CosmeticsInfo.org describes phenoxyethanol as "an oily, slightly sticky liquid with a faint rose scent." So phenoxyethanol. But is it safe? The evidence is mixed. The FDA currently allows this ingredient to be used in cosmetics and as an indirect food additive. The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) panel first reviewed all available data on this chemical in 1990. They considered it safe when applied topically in concentrations. 1 percent or less. Several studies have shown that skin irritation, rashes, eczema, hives can occur in both humans and animals. I haven't experienced any side effects so far, but of course I would have liked less chemicals in the ingredients.
