They Work!: Dogs

In winter I walked my dog because of snow, ice, salt and muddy muddy roads that we had to cross in our area. Then I changed the job and my walk schedule, and I have no choice but to do them right here at home. I don't have the money to buy her boots that get lost in the snow. I've used balloons on her legs and it's doable but painful. I think I read every review of every dog shoe on the market before deciding to try these. They work, they really work! So far they have stayed in our area for 2 walks. One walk was 8 blocks, the other was longer, maybe 10 or 12 blocks. Each walk included bare sidewalks, curbs, steps, packed snow, ice, 6 inches of fluffy snow, melted salt and muddy slush on the streets. I hardly wore shoes because I thought our new shoes would get dirty after just one walk, but they really didn't pick up dirt. I shook off the snow and hung them on clothespins near the heat pipe ready for our next walk. My dog wasn't enthusiastic at first and kept raising her hind legs after I put the boots on. But she loves her walks, and when we stepped outside it was pretty much the same as ever. One thing I noticed is that the ankle boots make a faint sound when she walks, like a pitter's tap. She's stumbled a few times which I attribute to the boots and will likely get better with time. She tripped over the snowy curb and stumbled trying to jump in mid-flight. Overall, her gait, speed, etc. seemed to be quite normal. still (they were - hooray!) SIZE: My dog is a 15# leggy mix, maybe a Shih Tzu Terrier mix. Your feet pressed against the paper are 1 1/4 inches in diameter. Based on sizing recommendations and reviews, I ordered the Petite. When they arrived I almost sent them back. There was no way her limp leg would fit through the hole, and yes it was a little awkward/difficult to get the leg in, but it was easier the second time around. The next size up would be too big and end up dangling in the legs. I would say the 1 1/4" width is the widest foot that will fit in a petite size. I have to agree with some of the other reviewers that if you have a really small dog the petite will be oversized, but balloons should work.BALLOON PRECAUTIONS - CHOKING HAZARD: My dog used to use balloons on his paws as a matter of course.. Once while putting them on one broke and I strayed far enough away from it to retrieve a balloon from the next room .When I came back I noticed a bullet was missing from her legs and I thought it had just come loose. But then she started gagging a little. She wasn't actually chewing or gagging, she just seemed a bit odd .I couldn't get her to open her mouth or even get it to open.We went for walks and she kept doing these little gags. Finally luckily very soon a bright green ball suddenly appeared de m sidewalk. It was in her mouth or throat the whole time and I was lucky she didn't die. Children die from swallowing balloons, so keep an eye on your dog when using balloons on his paws. Keep an eye on your dog when he has balloons on his paws and keep them out of your dog's reach between walks. Dogs love to chew on rubber and are particularly prone to chewing and killing rubber that you constantly place on their paws. He needs the neck piece to be tight enough to stay on. Only use them for short-term use as they fit snugly against the dog's legs and will also sweat. ULTRA PAWS DURABLE BOOTS HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. I'm considering ordering a spare pair if they need a wash. It also seems inevitable that one day the trunk will be lost and I will have plenty of spares on hand.
