It was a lot bigger than I expected and a lot bigger and deeper than other standard plastic baby spoons we have. The scoop is really a scoop with no bowl shape and didn't work very well for my son who is eating treats at 8 months - too wide and awkward to fit in his mouth. Added photos comparing them to a regular cheap plastic baby spoon and a regular adult teaspoon. On the other hand, my friend's son, who is almost a year old and has an insatiable appetite, was okay with it, so I gave it to my friend to use. I will say the pen works great as a teether. I also felt it was strong enough to hold a normal amount of food. I also tend to keep baby spoons close to the bowl which gives me more control and makes it less likely to get hit or hit by swinging my arms or grabbing.
