OK Just finished installing the gate. It was much more difficult and longer than a standard gate as these gates can be completely detached from the wall and raised with a push of a button at each end. It's a great feature, but that's why it's harder to set accurately. We have an awkward stair entry and I was able to customize it to work well for us. Plus: The gate is beautiful and much better finished than my last two gates. We have four Doberman Pinschers who are always pushing, bending down and jumping onto the grate at the top of the stairs. Cons: BIG SCARY MINUS: The reason I can only give four stars and if I were a parent who buys gates to stop kids I wouldn't even give it one star because all you have to do is to to go through these gates is to lift and open them!? I mean, let's be honest, if you have a kid, do you think they just aren't smart enough to just pick them up and open them? Is there a button that doesn't seem to do anything so I don't even have to use it? In the end, great dog guards open very wide, you don't have to squeeze through with your bags, groceries, etc. The door will close by itself if you push it lightly or don't hold it to keep it open. This is a beautiful oily bronze paint. But if you use this for kids I wouldn't buy it. I really hate saying that because everything else about it is great. But I think parents have a right to know that these gates will not prevent their children from climbing stairs or falling down.
