I bought a similar product two years ago to keep my German Shepherds away from furniture. My dogs quickly learned that the battery pack is safe to grab, so they paw it until it falls off the couch and then climb on it while we're gone. The dogs were too smart for that. Yesterday we brought home a seven month old kitten. I woke up several times during the night because he was washing the dishes. I covered the counters with double stick tape and aluminum foil. Nothing worked. This cat is not afraid of anything, so I ordered it around midnight. It arrived within a day which was a day ahead of schedule and was a pleasant surprise. I quickly got frustrated because it didn't work. The metal pins in the battery pack didn't appear to be bent the way they should be. After I fixed this issue, the battery was able to get in, albeit with little effort. I put it on the counter, turned on the horn and buzzer, and went to bed. An hour later I hear a loud beep and a little scuffle. As I entered the kitchen, a very surprised kitten rushed into my hands. The carpet lay on the floor with the battery and battery cover disconnected from the main unit. It seems he jumped up, the mat did its job and he got scared. He's definitely not injured. Now he's lying on my lap and purring. I deducted a star because I had to manipulate the pins in the battery pack. I saw another user send it back for this reason, so I believe it's a common problem. I'm also not thrilled that I have to pick it up off the floor every time it activates, but that could be due to the slick nature of my countertops. I'm glad the battery has shifted. If this hadn't happened, the device might have activated further as it curled up a bit on the floor. If you're buying this device for cats and countertops, I recommend using the beep feature so you know to come and move the device back if the cat goes mad in response to activation. I've had this device for literally a few hours, so I'll update again when a little more time passes.
