My 5 year old started preschool a few weeks ago and I think that's the perfect age for this toy. He had been in preschool for over a year so he was familiar with word sighting and spelling but really resisted any practice or play in this area at home. We have a bingo game and a spelling puzzle game and he refused to do both (although his teachers say he's great with words) but when we opened it he was obsessed. He's been playing with it at least once a day since we've had it, and it's split up whether he plays himself or asks me to join. His 2-year-old sister even enjoys playing, although she still has many miles to go before she grasps the concept. I like that it is independent. All wooden letters fit in the basket, as do spelling cards, and it's easy to store on a shelf between uses. My only complaint is that it tips over very easily when he's playing with it, so we have to brace ourselves against something.
