I spent about ten years searching for the right combination of shoes, orthotics, arch supports, and insole manipulations that would allow me to walk, run, and hike without sore feet. Throughout the process, the pain was constant but bearable enough to remain active. I had a colleague who was in so much pain in his legs that he could no longer walk and hike, which was his main social activity. One day he casually asked me if I knew anything about the pain in my legs due to what he had endured. After visiting doctors and specialists, his pain only increased. It dawned on him that we would have to quit work because the pain was becoming really debilitating. I tried to give him advice as best I could. After ten years of trying, I had quite a bit of knowledge to share. He was weeks away from quitting his job because he just couldn't run regularly, and he was willing to accept that he would have to make major life changes. . He found a doctor who recommended he try new Altra shoes in 2014. Within a few weeks of wearing the new shoes, his feet were noticeably better. Over the next few months he asked me to try on a pair. I keep letting him know that I've spent years getting the 'formula' right with my current shoes and I won't risk going back to real pain by fiddling with my current shoes and system. My time has finally come. to get a new pair of shoes and I was willing to buy an old reliable brand (Brooks) that I could put to work for me. I decided to try the "new" brand to my colleague because he kept saying and showing that after a few months of using Altra his leg pain was almost gone. FLOORED on how good they made you feel on the first day. They immediately felt better than my setup, which took years to calculate. I spent almost the next 4 years reaping the benefits of the shoe in much the same way as my colleague. I have recommended them to everyone who asked and many who didn't. I wore almost every pair available for four years then had a bad Altra pair in about 2018, changed fit, changed shape, changed quality. the feeling has changed. I figured it was just a bad batch and quickly brought another pair. They were just as weak as the previous couple. Over the next year, I tried on almost every style of Altra shoe. They were all a step backwards from the previous version of the shoe. I thought maybe my foot had changed, but I saw the ratings for their shoes drop almost everywhere. It seemed like they were no longer a top-to-bottom running shoe company, but more and more a casual/lifestyle shoe company. It got so bad that I bought a non-Altra pair of shoes for the first time in 4 years. I went through all the familiar brands and some of the new ones, the Hoka was superb but in the end I went back to my old familiar setup (Brooks) which used a few inserts, changes etc to lighten the foot. And now back pain. Earlier this year I was determined to find a true successor to the Altra, if there was one. After trying three different types of new zero drop models, I ordered a Topo to try out. Putting the shoes on was like a flash and took me back to the first time I put on the Altra. My foot was immediately relieved and the shape allowed my toes to flex like no other shoe. It's been a few weeks now and Topo shoes are every bit as good as Altra's Glory Days shoes and in some ways even better. a few years. The pain in my legs and back is gone. From cushion to fit, metatarsal support and toe box, everything works and restores a zero fall path to strengthen the foot and support muscles as you walk. Please don't go from a sneaker company to a "lifestyle" company. brand or something else. My feet will take no more kickback in these wonderful shoes. You are the leader now.
