Worked well for me: accessories for sports and leisure

TLDR version; I liked it and I recommend it. I bought it for a 6 day Boundary Waters (BWCA) trip. Most of my team took either iodine tablets during the day or morning/evening boiled water. Geopress filtered water tastes pretty good to me, and I mostly just drink water or coffee. I estimate I used the Geopress about 60 times during the trip to fill two 1 liter bottles of Nalgene for myself and one more. I bought an extra filter but never used it. The statement "filters dirty water in just 8 seconds" is probably true for the first few puffs, but the longer the filter is used, the longer it takes. The video is shown around day 4 of our trip and you can tell it lasts about a minute. I just lean on the filter with my upper body and try not to put too much pressure on it. The length of time didn't really bother me as it meant the filter was catching things I didn't want to ingest. I've read and experienced water leaking/splashing on the sides and you can see it in the video too. As I became more familiar with the filter, I realized that this usually meant simply not having the center of the inner bottle and squeezing it at an angle. As the filter becomes clogged, your equal body weight creates more pressure, so keeping the inner bottle centered on the outer sleeve becomes more important. Not quite sure how you can get 350 cycles/200L out of this filter _and_ keep the press time under 25 seconds. Keep in mind that BWCA water is pretty clean to my knowledge and I really tried to only use water that wasn't agitated or had noticeable floating particles. My 60 cycles is about 43 liters of water and by the end of the trip I had over 2 minutes of abs. This didn't bother me either, as I just took it slow. I had an extra filter just in case, but as long as I could feel the inner bottle moving, albeit slowly, and just rested my torso on the bottle, I would continue to use the existing filter. I read some reviews. complains that it is difficult to pull out the inner bottle. The trick here is to rotate the inner bottle clockwise as you pull the bottle out while keeping the outer sleeve stationary. It will usually all slide out pretty easily once you've gotten the first few 2-3 inches down - a side story; I looked closely at Geopress and MSR Miniworks and ended up with Geopress, but one of my team picked up MSR. While he was using the MSR filter I made a comment on the stories I was reading about cutting pens and the very next day the peg broke on his MSR filter. Maybe I just jinxed it, but I was glad I chose Geopress.

Pros
  • nice thing
Cons
  • I don't remember, but there was something
