To start with, this is a great buy if that's what you're after. For me it was, and it would cost me a good $40 or more to reproduce in a big store. However, if you are not planning on using all of the parts and would like a different configuration, this kit may not be for you. All the parts inside are the same as if you bought it at your local hardware store. All pipes must be cleaned and protected. Personally, I've found that dish soap (dry straight after washing) cleans everything the easiest, and I finished it off with some wax. The set is strong and easily supports the weight of my blocks of meat. I flipped the kit as it is designed so I am about to add a shelf and plan to use a support bracket to hold this cable management shelf. After cleaning and protecting, it took only 5-10 minutes to assemble the kit with the interference of children. I bought 2 so my wife and I would have the same desks in the office and I couldn't be happier.
