Review on ๐Ÿ”ฅ Black Briidea RV Propane Gas Detector with 85dB Loud Alarm, 12 VDC for Enhanced SEO by Aaron Allen

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Easy to install for home sensors and alarms

The propane detector on my 2014 Freedom Elite went out in the middle of the night, causing the alarm to go off every minute for 3 HOURS! These things don't "chirp," they make an awful series of long beeps that can't be ignored. And there's always the fear that they might actually detect propane and your RV could explode at any moment. So, per safety protocol, I immediately turned off the propane, aired the RV, then waited 3 hours until I couldn't take it anymore and cut the wires. Turns out I could just pull the fuse. This propane detector was available from Revain for 72 hour delivery which was EXACTLY what I needed and the price was good. I installed it myself. First electrical thing I ever installed. But it only has two wires, a ground wire and a live wire. They fit easily into existing cables. I unplugged the RV from shore power, unplugged the battery, plugged it in, put on the supplied wire nuts, plugged everything back into the space behind the unit and it immediately tested the system and then displayed what you see here. , state 0.0. In the future I will be purchasing a portable propane detector just in case this alarm goes off so I can determine if propane is present (aside from checking for rotten egg smells). They say these things are to be replaced every 5 years. I bought my van used and looking back I wish I had replaced this thing right away without waiting for it to break down because wow that was probably the longest 3 hours of my life.

Pros
  • Absolutely amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
