Review on Renewed beyerdynamic DT 1990 Pro Black – Enhanced DT1990 Version (Renewed) by Stanislaw Koluch ᠌

I³'m satisfied with the product, it³'s well made and the price is also satisfying.

I bought it for my home studio to replace the DT-990, which I had used for 6 years before. The result is rather ambiguous. The new ears don't have the same low mid-rise as the DT-990 and have a smaller stage, so the sound feels thin at first. But after getting used to it, it is no longer possible to listen to the old DT-990s, they mumble too noticeably. There are 2 pairs of overlays included: "balanced" ones emphasize sub-bass and lower mids (although the sound is still not the same as in DT-990), "analytical" muffle bass and lower mids, which increases the clarity of the sound. Basically, I use it with analytical. The frequency response of the DT-1990 in the main range of 0.1-1.5 kHz is more even, so they do not color the sound of voices and instruments. In the region of 2-3 and 7 kHz, they have a significant rise, the sound of strings and wind instruments is very clear, but sibilants and extraneous overtones in the recordings of acoustic instruments are also emphasized. In general, the sound of the ears is pleasant, but they are not universal. The sound is very bright, in the recordings, where there are so many highs, it turns out to be too much, the ear gets tired. As a result, I bought another Sennheiser HD650 and spend most of my time in them. The sound of the HD 650 is more balanced and pleasant. I'll leave the DT-1990 for now for monitoring and listening to acoustic recordings, where the treble boost is appropriate.

Pros
  • comfortable and reliable design, detail, high-quality sound on well-mixed recordings
Cons
  • emphasize recording flaws (sibilants, extraneous noise), too harsh sound
