Review on Chicago Pneumatic CP789HR 2 Inch Reversible by Paul Wall

Heavy Duty Industrial Drill

The first impression of the drill is very good. As a welder/fabricator I have used it for drilling mild and hardened steel with twist drills and hole saws. I first bought a CP 9789 and found it didn't have enough torque for many steel drilling applications. Also, the trigger on this drill was basically on/off, and the on was 800rpm. This one is made in Japan, has a decent Jacobs cartridge, good trigger and is comfortable to use. It is much more reliable and resistant to jamming in standard drilling operations. So far my only criticism is the side grip. A hex wrench is required to tighten and it seems like you have to remove the chuck to remove the ring. Note: The drill comes with the drill chuck removed. You need Torx T25 for the left locking screw. Spindle thread 3/8-24.

Pros
  • Absolutely Amazing!
Cons
  • Not bad, but...
