Bought this item to keep as a spare that is connected to a hard drive - as a precaution if the hard drive fails on my UnRAID system so I can then run it through one Cremax ICY can replace DOCK, MB455SPF-B 5 hot-swappable SATA 2 hard drives in a 3 x 5.25 drive bay aluminum rack when the drive unit has failed. I think after 4 drive failures in the last 18 months in various other NAS configurations it would be nice to have a spare drive. It is always best to be prepared as I am fed up with data loss. Not a bad investment and worth the purchase price paid.
