First off I have to say that when it comes to my tanks I suffer from OCD. It drives me crazy when they don't always look or work perfectly. One thing I hate is when you do a water change or vacuum and clean the tank and the good bacteria explode and cause algal blooms or other water problems that make your water look cloudy or cloudy. Sometimes it takes a few days or even a week or more to fix the problem and by then you will have changed the water again which will start the problem all over again. After discussions with some other aquarists, the UV light was suggested. I ordered this one because it was the first one that came up in a search. I ordered a 7 watt lamp to test it. I'm glad I did. The package arrived and the product box was in and it was a pretty solid box. Inside was a foam sleeve to protect against UV damage during shipping and storage. Light itself is not a fragile feeling or a cheap feeling. The glass looks thick and the light itself is pretty well made in my opinion. I've ordered things before and they look like they were made in someone's garage and installed here. This was not the case with this lamp. The light comes with 2 tight-fitting suction cups that attach to the light. The power cord is not flimsy and is fixed in a way that won't break under normal use, the length of the cord is decent. At the end of the plug is a rocker switch, a junction box, so you don't have to keep turning the light on and off. Now to the actual use of light. With these UV lamps, YOU MUST PROTECT DIRECT CONTACT WITH FISH, it is harmful to the fish if they do this and may end up killing them. You should put it in a filter, a sump, or some other place where the fish can't get to. There are even ways to place them in a straight waterline. Just search and you will see videos and other ways to hide them. You should only use this for 2-3 hours at a time and only every 2-3 days. or max 2 times a week Don't do this continuously, if you do this you can kill your good bacteria in the tank and that's no good as your tank could crack and everything die. This is not the main tank light. I chose this UV light. in my sump filtering 3x 20 gallon tanks. So about 80 gallons of water including sump. The pictures show the results. The first shows where I placed the light and how cloudy the water was. The second shows the results of using it twice. I was very happy with how fast it worked and how crystal clear the water was. Next time I will use it on my 55 gallons and only change it in my 11 tanks when needed. This was one of the best purchases for my tanks and I will use it all the time the tanks need it. The overall quality and performance of this UV lamp was much better than I expected. Definitely this one if you are looking for UV light or a way to make your aquarium water even cleaner.
