This is a good size jeweler's loupe and comes in a handy egg shaped case which also includes the tool for removing the battery cover. The unit I received came with the batteries included and both lighting options work well. The 2 outer bulbs on the bottom are white LEDs and the blue light is in the middle. This light is easy to turn on and off as this is done with a small switch underneath the LED bulbs on the underside of the magnifier when extended. The magnifying glass rotates, opens and closes, and when closed, the magnifying glass fits perfectly into the egg's body. The goose-egg-sized case itself (maybe a little flatter) fits in most wallets. The magnifying glass fits snugly into the case. I have a 30x loupe that I have used for many years and I am very happy that I now have a 40x loupe. I use it to check gemstones for inclusions and also to study mineral patterns. That's great too, and if you need to see something very small under magnification, this is definitely a good option. I have attached a photo of a faceted 2.4 carat quartz with oil in it, viewed through this 40x loupe. It was difficult to photograph this with my camera, but it still gives a pretty good idea of the magnification. I am satisfied with this jewelry loupe and I think it is a good purchase.
