Bought to be used as a heat based eraser for FriXion ink. Size, shape, ignition and characteristics of the flame were the selection criteria for this product. It seemed almost perfect for this purpose and proved effective in practice. There are some small quirks with this lighter. The selector switch between flame (similar to a regular butane lighter) and torch (which is how it sounds and is used for my extinguishing purposes) is a bit loose. Also, the lighter doesn't ignite well on the first try after switching from flame to torch. This is trivial as the switch is rarely used (the flame is only used to seal the ends of a synthetic rope, light birthday candles, heat shrink tubing, and other relatively rare occurrences). The ignition trigger reacts very sensitively to several clicks in quick succession. for small puffs of flashlight to wipe off heat sensitive ink. Overall, the metal construction makes the lighter nice and light, but not overly heavy. It doesn't get very hot in my use and holds a decent amount of fuel. The black paintwork/coating also seems to be durable. I don't recommend anyone to smoke, but this lighter seems good for lighting cigarettes (flame mode) or pipes/cigars (torch mode).
