I put it on my leg just to see if my dog was some kind of advanced being capable of absorbing electric shock, but actually the impact on my bare skin wasn't very strong. Might work for some dogs but I could never be sure my dog would stay around if that's the only solution this item can give. Yes, I changed the battery. In terms of product design, I'm really not sure what justifies the asking price. You are actually buying a collar and receiver because fishing line is just copper wire, which you can buy anywhere. Besides the receiver and the collar, there are only a few dollars of different denominations (flags). The collar itself appeared to be of acceptable quality and was probably what I was expecting to buy. However, the transmitter that is attached to the wall was absolute junk. It's made out of very cheap plastic with ill-fitting clips. There are only two parts you interact with, two buttons. With the bezel, I couldn't get the buttons to click without feeling like I was breaking them. I had to remove the faceplate and press the buttons every time I wanted to interact. In summary, I would say that my fears when buying this device were justified. It was no guarantee that my dog would stay within his limits even when trained as the correction just wasn't strong enough. I'm not sure there is a better product as this one had some of the best reviews but I would advise you to think twice if you have a large dog (not that 70lbs a "big" dog are).
