Powerful blender for its size (former Vitamix user) SEE UPDATES

Great blender. I bought mine from Target. It feeds on tough greens like kale and chard (with stalks), as well as frozen fruits, nuts, and seeds. It also makes amazing salsa and nut butters. I also have a Vitamix but wanted to get away from the plastic container. Although these 2 mixers are not in the same power/motor category, the Oster Pro is impressive in its capabilities. Love the reversible blade movement with smoothie and salsa capabilities. It really helps keep things moving without having to stop the mixer to redistribute everything. What really drew me to this blender is that I made almond butter in it. After doing this in both my Vitamix and food processor, they both get the job done but get very hot during blending, which I don't want in a plastic jar. This can also take some time due to the thickness of the oil. This Easter only took 10 minutes from start to finish including the occasional stop to clear the pitcher. My almond butter was smooth, silky, and easy to spread without getting hot from the friction of the blades. I found that using a medium mix setting is perfect for this. I was frustrated having to replace my Vitamix as the company has been slow to offer an alternative to the plastic container, despite numerous requests from their customers. I was considering a stainless steel Waring container to match the Vitamix base, but it has its problems: 1. It's expensive! 300 dollars. 2. It has PTFE (Teflon) shavings that wash out under the knife block and end up in the food. However, this Easter meets my needs and then some others. I also like that spare parts are available and cheap. The glass container is thick and durable, and unlike plastic, it is beautiful and easy to clean. No built up odors or stains despite all my scrubs, soaks and rinses! And one more thing. When assembled it fits under my closets. Finally, I also had an issue with it moving across the table top at high speed. As it turned out, I was missing one of the small rubber feet on the bottom. I called Oster and they sent me a replacement which was shipped 4 days later. Problem solved! Excellent customer service! Highly recommended! UPDATE JUNE 2016: Recently my blender's motor coupler (the square post at the top of the motor base that connects to the gear assembly) came loose and broke. :( I called Oster support as my blender was only 4+ months old and still under warranty. The rep was very friendly, professional and resolved my issue very quickly. He shipped me a brand new blender and sent the UPS Label emailed to address Send the broken one back All was free for me! Received my new blender just 4 days after the incident and it works great Let other customers know what great customer service they provide Sorry you rarely see that these days. I hope this additional info is helpful :) FEBRUARY 2018 / 2ND UPDATE: I've owned this blender for a little over 2 years and still use it every day. I love it! However, I was dismayed to read so many questions and complaints from customers here and on the Oster website about the lack of replacement pads in stock. I decided to make my own silicone baking mats. They work great, in fact I think they work a little better than the original gummies as the silicone doesn't dry out or crack as easily. I have a YouTube video showing how I made them in case anyone wants to keep using this mixer and needs a new pad (and is tired of waiting for Easter to get together). Channel: helpnatural.
