Buyers beware of poor performance

Really disappointed with this. I loved its features and so many great reviews, but so far it hasn't lived up to expectations. It's never been this wet, but so far it doesn't seem to remove moisture very quickly. I just tested it to make sure it wouldn't break upon arrival. It took at least a few hours in my basement to go from 55% to 50% humidity. My old dehumidifier would do this twice as fast. I have serious doubts that he'll be able to hit the 70 pints a day he claims, but won't know for sure until summer humidity picks up. The hygrostat oscillates quickly causing a short cycle so you need to set this much lower than you want it to work. This seems wrong and definitely inaccurate. The peak power consumption is lower than my previous dehumidifier, but the overall power consumption is actually higher after a while. In other words, my previous block would have worked more, but for a shorter period of time. This one does less, so it stays on longer. The only good thing I can say is that it doesn't make much noise and has a nice display. All in all I think it's a pity and I regret my purchase decision. I'll let you know if this somehow works better when the humidity gets worse in the summer. Update: I sent the device back because, as I said, the device only works properly in continuous operation and thus consumes too much power. It didn't remove nearly as much moisture as claimed. The seller contacted me and promised to send me a free device if I remove my 2 star rating. So I'm changing it to 1 star.

Pros
  • High marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other options
