Pretty Good Drive - Computers and Accessories

PNY Elite X-Fit 128GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive The PNY device is advertised as having a read speed of 200MB/s. I'll be using it as a portable backup away from the office, so I'm interested in a write speed that isn't listed in any of the specs posted on Revain. I will only read from it if something goes wrong with my computer. Comparing PNY to my favorite Corsair Voyager Vega 128GB, PNY gets a backup of 28 files in 43 minutes with 84.4GB (90,660,076,242 bytes) of data already encrypted, while Corsair collects the same data in 28 minutes. Same computer, same data, same USB III port, minimal computer activity. For PNY, that's a write speed of around 35MB/s, and for Corsair around 54MB/s. An interesting note: USB II's theoretical top speed is 60MB/s, so none of these will beat USB II's speed even if it is works in USB III. Copying 84.4GB of files back from PNY to the super-fast internal SSD took about 9 minutes, with an actual transfer rate of 168MB/s, close enough to the advertised 200MB/s. Corsair did the same job in the same amount of time. All copy operations were done with XCOPY. Who knows, maybe RoboCopy would be faster, but I've never seen it make a huge difference. Both drives get a little warm, but not when transferring data. None of them get warm in standby mode. Advantages of PNY: lower cost, comes with a very cool dust cover. Corsair Pros: 50% faster write speeds, nice little hard drive activity light, slimmer design.
