Get exactly what you pay for here.

However, I was not to happy when I got it and opened it to find out the back cover was not metal, but instead was plastic. Not sure if this will hold up in more extreme conditions. The second issue I have with this compass is the sighting glass is not secured in the frame that holds in in place. This will show to be an issue if having to align the glass each time. My third issue is that the Bezel Ring. The glow in the dark ring is a help as the lighting condition decrease, and the markings will allow more options, but the bezel itself is very poorly constructed. It feels very cheap. I would have expected just a little better.Would I recommend this product? yes. It is worth what you pay for. Would I recommend this to a youth in the Scouts? No This would be a good first compass if used to learn before spending good money for one. I do not think I would place my life on this compass. I bought this compass as a teaching tool. If you are looking for a good compass for field work I would consider a better model.

Pros
  • Precise measurements for reading and charting maps
Cons
  • The dial may be difficult to turn with gloves on
