Review on Extreme Max 5800 0200 Driveable Snowmobile by Ben Alvarez

Roughly made, not as easy to use as you think

One year update: going to the bin soon. 1) Ski bindings always come loose at the worst possible moment. To be honest I can't imagine anyone riding on gravel or any other surface that isn't perfectly flat and level. These things slip out of position simply by rolling across the 1/8 inch transition from my garage to the driveway. 2) The square U shape means the hardware from the spindle/ski will hit the inside edge of the build, snagging and bending. 3) have tried other solutions to replace cumbersome cables and nothing works. Overall I wish I had just made my own carts; It wouldn't require much additional effort. They really work once you finally set them up properly. Assembly is a pain and very tedious with no instructions in the box. Getting the clutch pins into the axle was a lot of work, and I mean hard work, with incredibly strong Knipex Cobra pliers. The clutch pins were never meant to be inserted by hand because they drilled too small holes for the pins + plating. - All corners, especially the ends of the axles (which are very roughly cut) are very sharp. I have a feeling they went with a yellow oxide finish because the parts just aren't finished enough to be painted. You'll have to play around with the orientation of the carriages (which are asymmetrical) and cables. The cables are very, very difficult to fit into the slots. There are so many other ways to do this, but I have a feeling this is the cheapest method. I don't understand the value of the rear car. It's not worth tucking it under the skid compared to something like a moving dolly, and you definitely don't want to damage the track by leaving it there for storage. I'm not saying this is a bad product. It doesn't work, it's just a bad product. In my opinion this is one of the most disappointing products; It's a good idea ruined by cost cutting.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for the elderly
