I've had many tripods, including various table tripods; This is definitely the most versatile table tripod I've come across. Here are my main thoughts: a: Size: It's mostly about specs, but it can be a bit big compared to a traditional table tripod. and it's definitely stronger due to the solid construction. All of this can be good or bad. based on your needs. For me the above is good because I would sacrifice light weight and size for more versatility. Unlike a traditional tabletop tripod, this one extends both the legs and the center post for added versatility. It also becomes completely flat (or almost flat, which is very desirable). b: Construction: rock solid c: re: Ball head: It's not the most elegant ball head, but it works well and all my cameras are Arca Swiss It's no slouch.
