It comes with a label: WARNING: This product can expose you to chemicals including lead, which is known to cause cancer and birth defects or other reproductive harm. I believe the thermometer well is made of leaded bronze. Other sellers always explicitly mention this fact. You will often see this message in the product description: These fittings contain lead and are not federally approved for use in potable water in the United States and its territories. I was hoping to contact the seller to ask this question but that option isn't available so I'm writing a one star review. I love this hot water thermometer but I think I'll have the ether to buy a lead free fountain or buy a new thermometer from another seller (and I think I'll be returning this one).
