I'm using a sonic toothbrush for the first time and I'm very satisfied. I needed this especially as I brushed very aggressively without realizing how hard I was brushing and receding gum lines. I needed one of them. At less than $20 I think it's a good buy, very light but don't let that fool you. It has 5 power settings, it doubles the pulses every 30 seconds to let you know you need to move to another part of the teeth and after 2 minutes it shuts off. Comes with 4 heads so it will last a long time. There's a trick to turning it on: make sure you press and hold the power button for 3-4 seconds, it also comes with a USB cable, but you'll need a plug to charge it from the wall outlet. I really recommend this, especially if you're on a budget but still want the same results as established brands.
