Review on Cardinal Gates Stairway Special Gate: Safeguarding Your Stairs with Style by Rebecca Rios

Great kids gate if you know a thing or two

Firstly all the reviews I have seen under 4 are for people using this gate outdoors or who don't like the latch because it"too hard to use" is ." folks if you can't EASILY get the gate to work then you have NOT installed it properly. I have 2 of these gates and after trying other gates that suck LOVE I them. They are all metal even the locking mechanism. They are not too heavy and not too light. They are easy to install if you know a few things I will list: 1. Before you do anything, look look at the hardware and where you want to install the gate and decide what exactly you need, they don't send enough equipment to install for everyone, they send 4 short screws and 2 long screws, you b need 2 screws on each side. So if you want to use two drywall mounting points you will need the 4 long screws that come with the stud. Go to your local hardware store and pick them up. If you install them in an unoccupied area you will also need to pick up lever anchors or something very heavy as they will not ship. If you put them on two new elements, everything is fine; 4 short screws work.2. If the locking mechanism is misaligned, the door may be difficult to open/close. This is a simple solution to the problem. Look and see where it hits or is stuck. Set the gate so it doesn't do THAT. To be honest, if you can't do that, you'll probably need to hire someone to install the gate because things like fixing it properly are probably a little over your paycheck and your kid deserves a job well done. There's nothing wrong with admitting you're not "handy." There is something very wrong about doing this work wrong and then seriously hurting your child. In addition, the lock is difficult to operate. The wall bar that the trap snaps into DIFFERENTLY at both ends. It's subtle. The "locking" end has a circular cutout, while the non-locking end is simply rounded on the outside corners. If you're not careful you can install it upside down as the mounting holes allow it. The latch will still "work", but it will be very, very difficult to work with. Adjustment doesn't help. You have to make sure it's installed properly or you'll hate your gate. I'm willing to bet $50 that most people complaining about not being able to open the door with one hand have an inverted mounting bar. These gates are made of thin-walled steel; NOT IRON. Do not overtighten the eyebolts or you could damage the gate. I know you want them to be very tight, but as long as the nut is very tight they won't budge. The mother blocks her. Being able to adjust the eyebolt is part of what you adjust the gate with.5. To plan. Before you drill the first hole, figure out where you want to mount the gate on either side. You can literally assemble all gates, mounting rails and everything else and hold them in place to ensure they fit you exactly. When you're done, just follow the instructions. If you make sure it fits your hole before you start drilling, you'll save yourself some time. Realize that it pays to check your child's safety weekly; all attachment points, width adjustment screws, latches etc. This is what you should do with any child gate. I know the idea of buying hardware seems flimsy after you've just paid big bucks for a goal. and i agree with you If the equipment provided was adequate I would give them 5 stars. Aside from the hardware, I can't find anything I don't like about this gate. I have two of these and they work perfectly. They open smoothly, close smoothly, are strong and durable, look attractive, are flexible to install (have 30 degrees of freedom to find your OWN bolt) and mount securely. I can't stress this enough; If you can't easily operate this gate with one hand, you installed it incorrectly. I've looked at dozens of baby gates and these are the only ones that I think will do to protect my baby. It's worth going to a hardware store to get it working. All other stair gates I found had at least 2 or 3 obvious flaws. By a look I mean something that could lead to the death of my child. Much luck.
