2003 Lexus RX300 Antenna Replacement

I've read reviews that this product doesn't hold up well or doesn't last very long so I'm keeping my fingers crossed. I bought this to replace my existing factory antenna on a 2003 Lexus RX300. Like others, I forgot to turn off the radio while going through the car wash, resulting in the mast bending and eventually breaking at the base. A few years ago I had to replace the whole part, motor and antenna as the motor was simply worn out, so I was painfully aware of what could happen if the cable snaps this time. While replacing the engine itself isn't all that difficult, I wasn't looking forward to taking apart and reassembling the cargo area as it is time consuming and just plain excruciating. When I first tried to install this I couldn't get a recording cable. The Lexus has the teeth pointing forward on the vehicle, I must have tried this at least 5 or 6 times, turning on the radio, pulling the mast all the way out and pulling the cable as far as possible, then turning the radio off to hook it up. and pull the cable in properly. When that didn't work, I realized that this cable is little more than an OEM product, as the saying goes "if there's a will, there's a way." a little and about 1 to 2 inches on the smooth back of the cable and a little on the sides of the cable. I then took a utility knife and cut the tip into a V shape. When I did this on the very first try, the cable gripped perfectly and retracted the antenna. The reason for the 4 star rating is that I had to make a small modification to make it work on my RX300. I hope this holds up and I don't have to go back and change my assessment or opinion. I hope this helps others who are planning to do it themselves instead of going to a mechanic or dealer which will cost a lot more. I would also like to add that yes I can do this on my own I am a 5ft 1in female and had no help. What I did was open the cargo hatch and put an extended antenna on top. ; As soon as the cable was there, the passenger door was open and the radio switched off, I had to act quickly, because once it was stuck, it happened pretty quickly, but it works.
