I bought 2 of these to use in the 5ft baby pool to give birth to my Bernese Mountain Dog (90 lb dog) and it has been quite good. During labor I tried to cover her with layers of paper and then I washed one and put in a new one after she was done. Now I change the pads every day and wash the others. This is good for keeping puppies clean and dry. It seems to wick moisture away from the surface as much as one would expect from a relatively thin construction. I've washed it about 7 times or so and it seems to be holding up well, but it does flake and shrink a bit. Nothing special other than quite a bit of shrinkage, so it had to be a bit bigger at the start to accommodate that. I actually made my own version from Joanns quilted fabric and lined it with cotton fabric. The homemade version is slightly thicker and has a more cotton-like surface, while the EZwhelp is thinner and feels more like a felted plastic surface. Both work equally well. Do-it-yourself production was much cheaper but took a little longer. I think it's a good idea to have 3-4 changes of clothes so I always have a clean one and a few to wash together. For the first few weeks you should change your mat about once a day, and then as you get older (2-4 weeks) you'll need to do it more often, about twice a day. After 4-6 weeks, it should be changed three times a day. So you can see that having several is a good idea.
