Used for work. Has the product or my water changed?

I've been a regular customer of these filters for probably two years, but I don't know if they've changed the formula, recently sold me some lemons, or my water quality has deteriorated. deteriorated to the point where they were no longer effective. At this point, the last one I had installed was convinced it was just coincidence since it didn't work, so I bought another one. I installed a new one maybe a month ago and it clearly wasn't filtering enough dirt out of my water either (my hair is a sale - and it's worked wonders for that). Then today he did what so many other people are complaining about where he just exploded in the middle of the shower! Luckily I was about to turn it off and flushed almost everything. But now that I can't find one of the essential parts of my old shower head, I have to go to the hardware store in the afternoon to buy a new one so that I can take a shower at all. I'd guess they might have sold me used filters, but a characteristic grey-black soot came out for the first few minutes, so I can't figure out what it was. I understand that this is not intended to actually *soften* the water. (removal of minerals) but simply to remove chlorine and impurities. Maybe my water has gotten harder somehow, maybe due to aging pipes. But anyway, I feel the need to warn people who want to use it for real water softening (I haven't tested my water but I'm pretty sure it's due to limescale build up around the faucet and something like rust looks, stain is quite hard in the tub - but my water also had these noticeable traces of minerals when these filters were working for me, which makes me think maybe it just got harder). This can work well for those who just want to remove the chlorine and it may explain why I've had good results with this before as I'm pretty sure my water is chlorinated enough too.

Pros
  • great product
Cons
  • very expensive
