Well, initially I only expected cosmetic differences between this and the Kamenstein Perfect Tear Wall Mounted Paper Towel Holder, Chrome. So I ordered both - for comparison. It turns out that the price difference is really justified! Unscrewing the main shaft exposes the ratcheting mechanism, which on the chrome version looks weaker even to the naked eye - without understanding how it works. The cheaper mechanism is inferior - it slips with almost every revolution of the shaft, mainly because there is too much clearance (axially) between the pins and the mounting bracket chrome disc that there is nothing to keep the pins in line with the ratchet. Adding a flat plastic disc can save time. until your teeth break. A flat plastic washer won't hurt the stainless steel version either, but the clearance is smaller, so not necessary.
