A major advantage of these snowshoes over bulky snowshoes is that the thinner and more flexible sole allows toddlers to walk and play as if they were wearing sneakers. They also insulate where thicker snowshoes would be too warm. The disadvantage of a thinner and more flexible sole is that it does not provide enough thermal insulation when walking on snow. Rainy days and their socks come out warm and slightly damp (some still sweat, although the perforated upper allows for better ventilation). Once when I let her go outside with those boots when it was snowing and the temperature was around 20, she came back with the same slightly damp socks but with much colder feet and she told me that her feet were cold. That was after 2 or 3 hours in the snow. So I would say these boots are good for milder winters when there isn't much snow and temperatures are around freezing or a bit higher. Snow, rain or dry weather and I have concluded that this is due to light sweating. Namely with a thicker merino sock (so that the sock is wet but the feet stay warm). If you're specifically looking for snow boots, I'd recommend boots with a chunky rubber sole and a seamless rubber heel. I use this for my toddler during snowball fights or when it's below zero and I'm very happy with it.
