I ordered this milk jug to have softened butter ready. I chose this particular oil pan because it is made in the USA and although it is listed as used it arrived brand new in the packaging in perfect condition. In order for the oil not to be stored in the refrigerator without rancidity and mold, it is important to use SAINT oil. Squeeze 1/4 pound (1 packet) of softened SALT butter (not "sweet" unsalted or whipped butter) into the "lid" of the holder with the back of a spoon and press firmly to remove air bubbles. Pour cold water into the jug and place the oil pan "lid" upside down in the jug with enough water to create an air pocket between the lid and the water. Change the water every 2-3 days and add ice cubes when the temperature is very high, otherwise the oil will melt and fall out of the lid. Keep it out of direct sunlight. This old-fashioned method will keep your oil for weeks.
