Yes, this kettle is inexpensive. yes it is plastic These are the only negative comments I can make about this kettle as I fell in love with it the first time and am considering getting a backup for myself as well as a few to give away. A few key points: - It's HUGE in terms of capacity. 1.8 liters is half a gallon, which is enough between coffee and tea for the whole day. - Heats up quickly, within 3-5 minutes. I'm talking about the bubbling boil. Personally, I don't need variable heat settings and can now estimate the temperature fairly accurately now that I've gotten used to it. β The cover is AWESOME. Point. Opening the lid to fill the kettle and then closing it takes less than a minute a day on average, but those half hours a month add up. - BRIGHT. My previous kettle was double walled stainless steel and twice as heavy for its size (1L) as this kettle with almost twice the capacity. If you're looking for a workhorse kettle that heats up quickly, is easy to fill and has a large capacity, you really can't go wrong with this one!
