Our cat had surgery and was fitted with an ordinary hard plastic e-collar. He wore it for two weeks and the reason we had to replace it was because the hard brim of this collar was squeezing his sore when he tried to bathe. His surgery was in close proximity to his buttocks and genitals, so he was always trying to get clean. This collar worked great for us and for him. It's lightweight, stretching enough to prevent it from licking its wounds, but still allows it to eat and drink and me to scratch its face and neck! He's a gentle cat, so he didn't try to remove it. Since he didn't have a facial injury, we didn't need a hard collar. It was also easy to remove for cleaning - if you can tie a bow, you've got it!
