Review on πŸ”˜ D.I.D. Dirt Star Black Rear Rim - 2.15x19 ST-X (Model 19X215STB01H) by Eric Surabhi

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The highest quality, lightest and strongest Honda MX rear rim with 32 holes. Where is the 18 inch version?

I have been building wheels for over 40 years and am always trying new rims. And I keep coming back to DID STX. I find them stronger than the Excel A60 and generally better quality, especially where the rim is welded. DID just fits the two ends together better and seems to take a little more care in smoothing out the welds. I'd like to see an all aluminum STX because the black anodized rims always scratch with tire changes and with normal use. They always do well the first time look and get worse over time. This 32 hole rear rim is quite exclusive to Honda as KTM, Suzuki, Kawasaki and Yamaha still predominantly use 36 hole rear rims. There may be a slight loss of strength when using 32 spokes vs 36 but the simple savings are probably worth it. My only criticism of DID STX (and LTX) rear drives is that they don't make an 18" version. If anyone needs a sturdy back these days, the Excel A60 is the only option available. DID misses out on a number of opportunities in off-road, enduro and dual-sport riders using 18-inch rear wheels.

Pros
  • Compatible with standard hubs, spokes and nipples
Cons
  • Faulty
