I'm old enough to remember giant tape recorders. I had one, 3x5 feet. Now it depends on the place. I wanted a CD/radio for my desk and this is perfect for my limited space. But can such a small device produce loud, high-quality sound? Absolutely. I'm very impressed with the sound. You get big, clear sound from a small player. I especially like how it top-loads for CDs. I had a player where a CD was put in the slot and one day it wouldn't come out. I had to send it in for repairs. That will never happen with this player. The user manual is very clear and well written. Most players call them "portable". It really is like that. There are only three things I would like to be able to do: optimize treble and bass, turn off AM radio and the speaker lights. You can be a little distracting. Otherwise, this is an excellent mini player. It makes my home office a more comfortable place to work. M
