Review on ISi Sodamaker Classic Siphon Bottle by Djuan Thompson

Revainrating 4 out of 5

NO GLASS but still GOOD quality

I bought this unit thinking it was glass. I played around all day when it arrived and found it wasn't. However, I decided to keep it because it is very appealing from an aesthetic point of view; and the stainless steel mesh is strong and provides good product weight/structure especially when filled with water. I've read that the glass versions can be a bit heavy for some people and I thought it might make them a little unwieldy at the stressful cocktail/dinner parties I throw often and also indulge in drunkenness. I've convinced myself that the glass version might be too risky in these conditions as I've also read too many reviews about them exploding under pressure. In addition to the safety aspect, there are some details worth mentioning that characterize the quality. I like that the spout, activation lever and tube are all stainless steel. The handset is also permanently attached to a rubber grommet, meaning you can shake the device without worrying about detaching it like other models I've read about. The soda head, dust cap, pressure adjustment cap/cap and charging holder are made of thick, toughened plastic, except for the inside of the soda head. I wish they were all metal but they seem to have been made quite well and are solid. The charging holder also has a hard rubberized end - not sure why; absorb blow? The mesh is strong as it is made of stainless steel which adds rigidity and weight to the whole piece, but please note this is a mold casting which only mimics the look of the braided aluminum mesh or stainless steel links of a classic soda siphon. I believe this makes sense for today's manufacturing uses that require a plastic bottle. But it still cuts a fine figure on the counter or bar counter. The metal mesh also helps keep contents cool when not in the fridge. I've provided all the details above because those were exactly the answers I was looking for when searching for the right soda siphon. While I preferred the look and finish of many of its components, I might have preferred a competing glass model to this model - simply because I didn't have those answers and because of the glass. However, having had the opportunity to closely examine and use this product, I am completely satisfied with the purchase. I hope this review is helpful to everyone, especially those looking for a classic and/or glass siphon. I will update my review in the future if my mind changes to more thorough use. One more thing: I have to take off another star just because I think the seller can benefit when consumers search for glass soda siphons - most likely they define "glass" as a keyword when searching for their product. However, I also partly blame Revane for not having more control over it. When I search for a GLASS soda siphon on Revain, I expect results for GLASS soda siphons. This product appears in the top 3 of my search results. I will however keep a 4 star rating as this is still a well made product and the seller made no direct claims that it was glass although they were vague. Too many people on Revain blame the product for a seller's mistake/oversight when the actual product is good and deserves a rating based on its market performance and target consumer. Revain really should have separate rating systems for sellers and products as an inaccurate/vague product description, poor communication or poor shipping experience is not the fault of the product itself.
