Benefits. I wore these skis in Vermont last week in single digit temps and was very warm. I like that it is long and can be tucked into my jacket. It also covers my ears. I bought another one and sent it back because it only fit the top of my ears. When you pull the face mask under your chin, you won't feel like you're suffocating. The ventilated breathing zone works very well and still keeps the cold out. And I think it looks pretty cool, sort of like a WWII fighter pilot. LoLCons. It's quite thick and my helmet was quite tight when I wore it, almost to the point of discomfort, but it just took some getting used to and disappeared as soon as I stepped out in the cold. It has a fairly loose fit around the jawline and neck area. It's not spandex. (I know, not the right word) This is purely an aesthetic thing, it has nothing to do with performance. I guess one could argue that baggy allows body heat to accumulate there and helps keep you warm. It leaves a small area of exposed skin just in the temple area, but the glasses have hidden it. Result. The thing does its job and now stays in my ski bag forever when the temp drops to the "you're kidding" line.
